Mercury in Libra

Fair, unbiased, and mentally open, these individuals are the negotiators of the Zodiac. Able to see both sides of the question, an equal voice for all is important to these individuals. These natives care less about what is done and more that agreement is reached regarding the final decision.

In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Libra is allied with Ma’at, the goddess of Truth, Balance and Justice. Her symbol is the scale. Ma’at weighs the souls of the newly deceased on her scale against a feather she wears on her head. In order for the soul to return to the Egyptian home among the stars, the heart of this person must weigh less than her feather. There can be no bitterness, anger or resentment lingering in the heart.

In order to avoid these difficult emotions, we must learn to speak our truth. This can be challenging for those born with strong Libra energy. Someone might get upset! Learning to speak their truth in a balanced way becomes the guiding lesson for those born with Mercury in Libra. In their shadow lies indecision, people pleasing, and an inclination to say what others want to hear, rather than what they really think.

There is a saying regarding clear communication in relationships that is particularly applicable to this placement: “Say what you mean, mean what you say, but don’t say it mean.” Learning to speak their truth in all their relationships is the challenge of this position.

Mercury (Thoth, the Sacred Scribe) will turn retrograde in Libra/Ma’at, providing an extended period of time to work with issues around speaking our truth. Mercury/Thoth enters Libra/Ma’at on August 29/30, turns retrograde on September 26/27, turns direct on October 18, and exits Libra/Ma’at on November 5.
