Saturn, principle of constriction, is stationary in Pisces. From our perspective here on Earth, Saturn is suspended, bearing down on us with great intensity and forcing us to look at that which we would rather avoid.
In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Saturn is allied with Sobek, the Old King. Sobek is the crocodile god who creates and maintains order in the universe. Sobek is associated with our reptilian brain; the part that controls autonomic functions such as breathing, heart rate, and body temperature. Stability in these functions is necessary for our survival. The Old King views change as a threat and works relentlessly to maintain the status quo.
Pisces is a water sign, emotional and fluid. Saturn doesn’t like all that fluidity. It makes the Old King nervous; his response is to try to confine Pisces’ undifferentiated movement. This, however, is like trying to build a fence around water; it doesn’t work. Water slips through the cracks and in many situations emotions overwhelm. It’s no wonder that some people are feeling trapped and even a little panicked.
This Saturn retrograde period comes on the heels of Pluto retrograding back into Capricorn (ruled by Saturn) on June 11. Retrograde motion provides opportunities to revisit a current path. As much as we might like to, it is impossible to avoid the reality of a hugely changing world.
Over the next 7 months, we have the opportunity to create a new structural template for both our personal lives and for our collective. Use this time wisely. Confront the truth of your situation and make plans accordingly.
Saturn will turn direct at Pisces 0° on November 4.
