Pluto Retrogrades into Capricorn

Pluto, symbol of death and rebirth, has left its mark on the organizational structures of societies since its entry into Capricorn in 2007. Nowhere has that impact been stronger than in the United States. This transit included the US Pluto Return – Pluto returning to the place it was when the US was born. The return of the Lord of the Underworld to his original position is the culmination of a 240-year cycle for the United States and is a transit that initiated a collective Dark Night of the Soul.

Since March 2023, Pluto has been moving back and forth over the cusp between Capricorn and Aquarius. Now Pluto is retrograding from Aquarius into Capricorn for a final time. On November 19, Pluto will leave Capricorn and begin in earnest its 20-year transit of Aquarius.

In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Pluto is Osiris, Lord of Regeneration. Osiris is murdered by his brother Set, and re-membered by his wife, the goddess Isis. Out of his death the Young King Horus, scion of a New Era, is born.

The back-and-forth movement of Pluto/Osiris from grounded Capricorn to the sign of the collective – Aquarius – describes a shift from a hierarchical form of organization toward one that is rooted in contributions from the collective. This transit hints at a huge change in how we organize and govern ourselves, something we do not yet know how to accomplish. With this last movement of Pluto/Osiris into Capricorn, expect old patterns to assert themselves against a backdrop of transformational change. If this sounds like a struggle, it will be.

Pluto/Osiris will retrograde into Capricorn on September 1, turn direct on October 11, and move firmly back into Aquarius on November 19. And, yes, Pluto will be in Capricorn on November 5, the day of the US Presidential election. It will be interesting!
