Sun enters Aries; Equinox

March 19, 2024, 11:07 pm EDT.

The entry of the Sun into the fire sign Aries marks the beginning of a new astrological year. In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Aries is associated with Kephera, the Spiral Dancer. Kephera is the scarab, representative of the dung beetle. These insects are pathogenetic, meaning they lay, fertilize, protect, and hatch their eggs. The Egyptian Kephera is both male and female, mother and father, and is the symbolic nurturer and protector of the Earth.

In traditional astrology, Aries is associated with The Warrior. Individuals with Aries strong in their charts are assertive, impulsive, and can be warlike. They are also protective of those they love. The hunger for experience burns bright in these natives. This is the seedling that has cracked out of the seed pod and is driven to break through the earth and receive the life-giving nourishment of the Sun.

The movement of the Sun into Aries marks the first of the two Earth Equinoxes, when day and light are of equal length. Regardless of where we live on Earth, this time marks a pause in our journey toward an extreme. Half of us is headed in one direction while the other half is moving in the opposite direction. For those who live in the Southern Hemisphere, the journey is toward maximum darkness; those in the North are moving toward maximum light. As we pause in our journey, we are invited to recognize that even as we move toward opposite poles of experience, our journey is the same.
