Cancer New Moon

New Moon at Cancer 28°27’, 1:33 pm EDT.

The Cancer Dark Moon window (July 19 – 21) is a time to engage with our emotions. Sensitive, empathic, and moody, Cancer is ruled by water. Our emotional nature ebbs and flows like the tides of the ocean; both are affected by the ruler of Cancer – the Moon – as it orbits around our Earth. By consciously harmonizing with our internal emotional rhythm we are engaging with the cleansing aspect of water. Internal blocks and resistance are washed away.

This Cancer New Moon is dominated by a Sun/Moon opposition to Saturn. In the language of Shamanic Egyptian astrology, Saturn is Sobek, the Old King. In Greek and Roman myth Saturn (Chronos to the Greeks) is the father so afraid his children will usurp his power, he swallows them whole. Saturn aspects are known for their oppressive quality. Saturn is part of the Great Shift Alignment with Jupiter and Pluto, bringing the power of this ongoing conjunction to the forefront.

Eris, the Greek Goddess of Strife and Discord, is stationary and will be particularly impactful during this Dark Moon window. Eris will form a T-square with the New Moon opposition to the Great Shift planets. The Angry Goddess has been square to these planets all year, and in a challenging relationship to Pluto since early 2019.

During this three-day period, we would do well to give this misunderstood and often maligned goddess her due. Eris is the discontented feminine, angry because she has been marginalized and not given her rightful place in society. Since her discovery in 2005, Eris has made a powerful impact. The discontent felt by many needs to be acknowledged for this anger is like a simmering pot of water at the point of boiling over. We need to turn down the fire.
