Cancer New Moon

July 17, 2023: New Moon at Cancer 24°56’, 2:32 pm EDT.

On the day of this New Moon, the nodes shift into new signs: Libra for the South Node and Aries for the North. The Nodes – the magnetic poles of the Moon – refer to a journey from the past (South Node) to the future (North Node). In our personal charts, this is the baggage (karma) we bring with us and the place we are meant to arrive (dharma) as a result of the experiences of our journey.

The nodes stay in a sign for 18 months. This shift is from the Scorpio/Taurus axis to the Libra/Aries axis. The Nodes are always opposite and there is struggle in opposition. The question with this dynamic is: how can I be fully an individual while also in relationship?

The Sun/Moon Cancer conjunction is part of a T-square with Pluto (opposite) and Eris/Chiron (square). Good old Eris. Goddess of Strife and Discord, sidekick of Mars, Eris is the angry, disenfranchised feminine who will stir the shit because she has no other means to power. Injustice totally pisses her off and if no one will listen to her, she ambushes and runs. Whenever Eris shows up conflict is in the air. Chiron – the wounded healer – is stationary turning retrograde on July 23 – as is Venus, the determiner of values. Venus turns retrograde on July 22 in Leo.

Warrior Mars is in Virgo, opposite constricting Saturn. As we move toward the Full Moon, Mars will move on, replaced in this current position by Mercury. The feeling of constriction will continue but there is a difference. There is a sense of busting out with impulsive energy moving in new directions. The bogged down feeling of equally strong and stubborn forces stuck in non-cooperative stances will begin to fade. This energy is combustible, impulsive, hit and miss, but - hey – it’s movement. Do with it what you can.
