June Solstice

Imagine you are suspended from a pendulum, pausing at the end of a long, slow swing. Twice a year, for a few days, you swing as far as you can into the light, into the dark. Then you stop – your body quivering as the strength of the swing stretches you outward. This is the Solstice, the extreme of light and dark. This is a body-felt planetary experience – give yourself over to it. Stay here for a while, without the need to do anything except be. Breathe deeply and listen – what do you hear in this place? What do you feel? What do you know?

If you are in the North, what is blooming for you? If you are in the South, what is dying? The light of new life emerges from the darkness, the silence of death collapses into the light. This is a wave constantly rising and falling and, for these few days, you are at the extreme end of this constantly changing experience. Stretched, pulled, into the extreme light, into the extreme dark.

Soon you will turn and retrace your steps - into the darkness, into the light. This moment of hesitation is an opportunity. Use it. Be still. Align yourself with this never-ending journey that is the breath of Gaia, the rhythm of Earth.

The Solstice is exact at 10:58 am EDT, June 21, 2023.
