January 11: Mars, associated with action, creativity, aggression, and manifestation, turned retrograde on October 30 in the air sign Gemini. Mars is now stationary, preparing to turn direct. When a planet is stationary, it’s energy is strong.
Mars is our internal Warrior. Mars in Gemini loves variety and is often involved in several projects simultaneously. This position can spin out, however, overwhelmed by a multitude of possibilities. This retrograde period has provided opportunities to acknowledge if one is on overwhelm in some area of life and to begin to sort out what is important and what is not.
In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Mars is associated with Set, the Warrior King. Set is a complicated character. He is both the murderer of his brother Osiris and the guardian of Ra during his nightly journey through the underworld. In the first story, Set’s actions appear cruel and irrational; this is his expression as the Manifestor of Chaos. In the second example, Set is aligned with his Sacred Purpose, embodying his role as the protector of Ra and destroyer of his enemies.
Warriors are designed to act, sometimes with great force and intensity. And all action must be directed by love. This seeming contradiction can create confusion about how to manifest one’s energy in the world. As we exit this Mars retrograde period, ask yourself if your actions are aligned with your heart. Without that connection, there is only destruction.
Mars/Set turns direct on January 12 at 3:56 pm EST.
