Mercury is stationary, preparing to turn retrograde.
This Mercury retrograde period will be in the water sign Cancer, associated with home, family, safety, and stability. Feelings lead when Mercury is in Cancer and this retrograde period will be an especially sensitive one. Mercury in Cancer can be affected by the emotional environment and become confused about what is theirs and what belongs to others. This tendency will be heightened in the days ahead.
For a few days – from June 17/18 through June 24/25 – we will experience both Mercury and Venus retrograde with Neptune stationary. This week also brings the Solstice and a New Moon Solar Eclipse. Emotional intensity and confusion will increase during this time.
In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Mercury is aligned with Thoth, the Sacred Scribe. Thoth, one of the oldest of the Egyptian gods, is the creator of language and time. The relationship between language and time creates our reality construct. Memory is part of this equation – how we perceive past events – as is imagination – our ability to envision the future.
Thoth emanating through Nut and Geb (the Shamanic Egyptian allies of Cancer), directs our attention to what we believe we need to feel safe and secure. Many of us associate safety with home and family, both individually and as a collective. Expect this area to be a major topic of conversation throughout this Mercury retrograde period. Specifically, how do we define home and family (what is home and who is family?) and what actions do we endorse to protect and defend that which we define.
Mercury/Thoth will be retrograde from June 17/18 through July 12. Mercury/Thoth will leave the emanation of Cancer/Nut and Geb on August 4.
