Sun enters Scorpio
The Sun represents the solar center of the entity (individual, collective, event) being described. For individuals, this is the seat of their solar – or “soul” – power, viewed through the personality traits that overlay their sense of self. In Scorpio, the focus shifts from the individual to the relationship. We move from the Libran desire for relationship to the merging of two beings. The opposites merge and the result is something new.
This merging comes with specific challenges. In order to be approved of by a prospective partner, we often hide or even deny qualities that may not be accepted. Scorpio describes the thrill of the merging (no wonder Scorpio rules sex), and also the challenges that surface when hidden truths emerge (secrets and lies). Scorpio revels in the world of shadow which is both thrilling (things that go bump in the night) and also devastating (betrayal and abandonment).
This is rich emotional territory and this Scorpio season is particularly intense. Mercury is stationary in Scorpio (turning retrograde on October 24) and Venus is retrograde in Scorpio (backing into Libra on the 25th ). The solar spotlight peers into the shadows hidden in our relationships. This applies to personal relationships and to the collective. Secrets and lies – the stuff of shadow – will emerge.
In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Scorpio is allied with the Cat Goddess Bast. Bast is seductive and mysterious. She holds open the portal between death and rebirth. Those with Scorpio strong in their charts inevitably have experience with the shadowy realm of the Underworld. They learn to find their footing in the hidden realms without being consumed by darkness. During Scorpio season, this applies to all of us.
The Sun will remain in Scorpio/Bast from October 23 to November 21/22.
