Venus Retrograde

In traditional astrology, Venus is the feminine principle. Venus represents values; what we want to receive.

Our values are initially downloaded from family and culture. As we grow emotionally, we determine our values separate from the influence of those who have formed us. A Venus retrograde phase provides opportunities to examine whether our values are in alignment with our true desires.

Venus turns retrograde approximately every 18 months for about six weeks at a time. This Venus retrograde period is particularly important because encapsulated within it will be a three-week Mercury retrograde period, both in the water sign Scorpio.

In the Egyptian pantheon, Venus is allied with Isis, Queen Mother of Heaven. While the Roman Venus – Aphrodite to the Greeks – is associated with beauty and eroticism, Isis is all this and more. Isis is an expansive version of the Divine Feminine – mother, wife, warrior, queen. She is a sorceress and shape shifter, determined and compassionate. Isis is not dominated by patriarchal energies but rather is a power in her own right.

Scorpio is allied with Bast, the Cat Goddess. Sensual Bast holds open the portal between death and birth, a place familiar to those with Scorpio strong in their personality.

As of this writing Venus is stationary and Scorpio themes - death, sex, secrets, trust and betrayal - are in the zeitgeist. Expect more of this, both in your own life as well as the collective. This retrograde period will extend from Scorpio to Libra, providing opportunities to examine values around relationships and intimacy. The Venus question is always, “What do I want to receive?”

Venus/Isis will turn retrograde in Scorpio on October 3, pass back into Libra on October 25, and turn direct on November 13. Mercury will also turn direct on November 13.
