Virgo is the sixth sign of the Zodiac and marks the last phase in the development of the individual. The next six-month phase (Libra through Pisces) will be about the growth and development of the collective. Virgo’s job is to smooth out the rough places so this newly integrated individual is ready to be in relationship.
In it’s shadow, Virgo can be fussy, judgmental, and overly critical. Virgo at it’s best understands the difference between judgmentalism and discernment. Learning to say “I prefer this” as opposed to “this is wrong” is key for those born with Virgo strong in their chart.
For Virgo, meaning is found in the details. Logic and analysis come naturally to these natives and the purification of mind, body and soul is central to their growth. In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Virgo is allied with Nekhbet, the Crone Priestess. Nekhbet was one of the Two Ladies tasked with preparing the young pharaoh to hold the mantle of leadership. Nekhbet’s job was to teach the young pharaoh what it means to be wise.
In ancient Egypt, Nekhbet is identified with the Vulture, a symbol of purification. Vultures are nature’s garbage disposal. They consume the dead bodies of the forest, receiving nurturance from poisons which would kill other creatures. Those with Virgo strong in their chart find their inner truth by contemplating the concept of purity and exploring what that means to them.
In her role as the Crone Priestess, Nekhbet serves as an advisor to those seeking to find their Soul’s Path. Nekhbet supports us in letting go of old hurts and wounds, and to release resistance to the deaths that initiate transformation. Through this process we step onto our Soul’s Path.
The Sun will move through Virgo/Nekhbet from August 22 to September 22.
