Sun in Scorpio

Intense, passionate, and perceptive, Scorpio is like the ocean during a storm – huge waves, lightning strikes, and the possibility of shipwreck. This water sign stretches down to the depths of the ocean and is quite comfortable in the realm of its ruler – Pluto, Lord of the Underworld. Scorpio natives are sensitive to the undercurrents of human emotion and have a natural ability to flush out hidden motivations.

Scorpio season has come early. Mercury, Mars, and Ceres are already transiting Scorpio and Pluto remains strong in expression. The deeply troubling world events that have exploded from the depths into our collective psyche reflect the power of this sign. Scorpio releases that which lurks in the shadows. Those with Scorpio strong in their chart see what others deny and they know what others would prefer to avoid.

In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Scorpio is allied with the cat goddess Bast. The Priestesses of Bast were the Sacred Sexual Priestesses who used the tantric arts to heal warriors returned from battle. Pregnant women came to their temples to be supported in the birth process. These Priestesses stood at the portal of transformation between life and death, supremely comfortable in both worlds.

The ancient Egyptians loved their cats, as do many of us. These small bundles of intensity give us a taste of the Goddess. If we stay in her favor, she is loving and affectionate. If we displease her, the claws come out, often accompanied by a warning hiss. “Don’t touch me like that, human! You are impertinent!” So too the Scorpio person. There is a hint of danger about this native, and yet they are also beguiling and seductive. Magical and mysterious, Scorpio sees into the dark and keeps their secrets close.

The Sun remains in the emanation of Scorpio/Bast from October 23 to November 22.
