The Equinox; Sun enters Libra

September 23, 2023, 2:40 am EDT.

The Equinox is a time of equal night and day – a moment of balance. The two signs associated with the Equinox – Libra and Aries – approach this idea from very different perspectives.

The Aries Equinox (March) refers to the emergence of the individual from the undifferentiated miasma of Pisces. The two are of equal power - the focused desire of the individual cast against the power of the undifferentiated collective.

The Libra Equinox (September) describes the desire of that differentiated individual to be in relationship with other differentiated individuals. Libra is the sign of the “I/Thou Exchange.”

Libra is an artistic sign that values beauty, symmetry, and harmony. The symbol for Libra is a scale. Libra needs to be in dynamic balance in all their affairs, including relationships, which can be a challenge. The Libra native does not like conflict and can fall prey to people pleasing. People pleasing is a disempowering behavior that is ultimately dishonest. When our goal is to avoid conflict, we become what someone else wants us to be, rather than who we are. Libra can become enamored with the idea of relationship, forgetting to fully see the person they are relating to. While the desire is for relationship, what is sometimes experienced is illusion.

In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Libra is allied with Ma’at, the Goddess of Truth, Balance, and Justice. In her myth, Ma’at weighs on a scale the heart of the newly deceased against a plume she wears in her crown. Sadness, anger, and pain must be balanced against lightness, joy, and beauty. They are all part of our human experience. Herein lies the mystery of the September Equinox.

The Sun will remain in the emanation of Libra/Ma’at until October 23.
