In traditional astrology, Venus is values; what we want to receive. This is the yin principle of receptivity. Jupiter is the principle of expansion.
In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Venus is Isis; Jupiter is Horus. These two are primary players in the Osirian Mysteries, an important Egyptian myth. Isis is the mother of Horus. The story revolves around the murder of Osiris – father of Horus and consort of Isis. Horus avenges his father’s murder and is a combatant for the throne. He is ultimately successful, and his ascension takes centuries to achieve. His mother Isis is his ally and advisor. The Young King is headstrong and rash. He does well to listen to the wisdom of his mother, to allow his actions to be directed by her wisdom. This story is about the rebirth that inevitably follows death and its symbolism is appropriate for our time.
Venus has been retrograde in Leo since July 22, providing an opportunity to clarify what we most value. As Venus and Jupiter have slowed to station, they have moved into a square aspect to one another. A square is a challenging aspect. These two archetypal energies are blocking each other, making access to each other difficult. There is growth in obstruction, although it is not usually pleasant.
These two will remain square for the rest of September, providing opportunities to experience ways we are out of synch with our own value system, and how that disconnect has real world consequences. If we truly value something – whether it be family, children, animals, the Earth – how can we act in ways that bring harm to these entities?
Venus turns direct on September 3. Jupiter will be retrograde from September 4 through December.
