Venus in Cancer

After a lengthy journey through the air sign Gemini (since April 3), the planet of values and receptivity enters the water sign Cancer. Those born with this position value and want to receive kindness, compassion, safety, and security. They long to be held by the loving arms of family, whether it is family of origin or a chosen tribe. At their best, these individuals are nurturing to others, offering those around them that which they most wish to receive. In its shadow, the sensitivity of this position can become fearful of change, wanting to hold everyone and everything they love in a never changing container of safety.

In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Venus is aligned with Isis, Queen Mother of Heaven. Cancer is aligned with the Divine Parents, Nut and Geb. Nut is the Sky Goddess; Geb is the Earth God. Through their love, these two create the biosphere of planet Earth, the safe container for all life on our planet. Isis is very comfortable in the emanation of Nut and Geb. In this position, Isis expresses a gentle desire to nurture and hold others in compassion and kindness.

In traditional astrology, the symbol for Cancer is the crab who carries its home on its back. During the passage of Venus/Isis through the emanation of Cancer/Nut and Geb, we will all have an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of home, family, safety and security. Ultimately, safety is an inside job – it has nothing to do with external circumstances. The only constant in life is change, and during this time of great transformation we all need to ask ourselves an essential question: “How can I feel safe in an unsafe world?”

Venus/Isis will remain in the emanation of Cancer/Nut and Geb from August 7 until September 6.
