June 25, 2025: New Moon at Cancer 4°07’, 6:31 am EDT.
This New Moon provides an opportunity for contemplation of the Cancerian concerns of home, family, safety, and security. This year’s Cancer New Moon is conjunct to Jupiter; Jupiter expands everything it comes in contact with. It also forms a challenging relationship – a square – to the on-going Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Aries.
The Saturn/Neptune conjunction creates a dizzying sensation of simultaneous dissolution and constraint. This is a collective transit, meaning that all of us are caught in this sense of something struggling to free itself while simultaneously dissolving away. During this Moon phase both Saturn and Neptune will turn retrograde, heightening the feeling of free fall; Neptune on July 4 and Saturn on July 13.
The prominent position of Pluto in this chart is worthy of note. Pluto – planet of transformation and change, now in Aquarius - is part of a T-square with Mercury and Chiron conjunct Eris, and stands at the endpoint of a Yode pattern with the Sun/Moon/Jupiter conjunction sextile to Mars.
The movement over the last two years of Pluto into the air sign Aquarius is extremely important. This transition describes an acceleration of our movement into the Aquarian Age. Aquarius is the sign most associated with technology. There are many issues dominating our collective perspective at this time, and the effect of technology – specifically artificial intelligence - on our planet is interwoven into all of them. On July 7, also within this Moon phase, the ruler of Aquarius – Uranus - will begin its gradual transition into Gemini, the sign of thought and communication. The next seven years will bring tremendous advances in artificial intelligence and related technologies. This summer will bring a preview of changes yet to come.
