Capricorn New Moon

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

January 13, 2021, New Moon at Capricorn 23°13’, 12:00 am EST.

As we enter the first New Moon of 2021, the defining issues of last year – pandemic, election, systemic racism – are still with us. In our New Moon chart, Sun/Moon align with Pluto/Osiris, Lord of Regeneration and square Eris, Goddess of Strife and Discord. The story of 2020 is not over. Simultaneously, the primary transit of 2021 - the waning square between Saturn and Uranus – is emphasized.

The Saturn/Uranus relationship can best be understood through the context of birth. Saturn (Sobek, the Old King) is the container that keeps gestating life safe (the casing of a seed, the shell of an egg, the womb). Uranus (Wadjet, the Kundalini Cobra) is the force that propels this new life out of its protective container. Birth is a chaotic process – and sometimes dangerous. Not all seeds make it out of their protective casing; not all babies are born. We see the out picturing of this astrological transit in the pandemonium of our present political and social environment.

Collective forces such as these inevitably effect our personal lives. Chaos is difficult yet inherently creative. This volatility is the rumbling of new energy preparing to burst forth. Wadjet is activating the birth process and breaking down the barriers to the creation of new life.

During this Dark Moon Window, make a conscious effort to not be thrown off course by events you cannot control. Offer prayers to whatever is sacred to you in support of our beautiful planet as she goes through the throes of birth. And don’t forget – you have a mission. There is something you are here to do and it can only be accomplished if you stay firmly grounded in form.
