August 11, 2025:  Mercury turns direct at Leo 4°14’, 3:30 am EDT.

Mercury retrograde is the most recognized of all the astrological transits. Missed connections, misunderstandings, delays, and breakdowns abound during Mercury retrograde periods. If you have points in your chart directly affected by a Mercury retrograde period, you’re definitely going to notice. If this is all you notice, however, you’re missing the opportunity.

In traditional astrology, Mercury is our mind. It is how we think and how we communicate our thoughts to others. In the Egyptian pantheon, Mercury is allied with Thoth, the Sacred Scribe. Thoth is ancient; this hybrid of human and bird (an ibis) has been here since the beginning of time. The Sacred Scribe created writing, language, and time. It can be said that Thoth is the creator of 3rd dimensional reality – our Earthly reality construct.

Our reality construct is what we believe to be real. It contains within it the values we embrace and the attitudes we adopt based on those values. In societies considered to be successful, most people adhere to a reality construct that is common to others. A chair is a chair, a cloud is just a cloud, and our societal values are correct. For the last several years, we have been going through a massive transformation of our shared reality construct and these assumptions are no longer true. Here in the US, two people can look at the same event and see something very different.

When Mercury turns retrograde, we have an opportunity to examine our personal reality construct and adjust as needed. During these few days when Mercury is stationary and turning direct, take time to look at what you have believed to be true and acknowledge what you no longer believe. Use Thoth’s gifts of writing and language to examine your reality construct and align with the flow of time.
