Mercury Retrograde – July 18, 2025, 12:45 am EDT at Leo 15°34’.

It’s that time again – Mercury retrograde! Mercury retrograde periods are often met with dismay. Delays, misunderstandings, and missed connections are common during these periods. The emphasis in our world is on speed; “Move fast and break things!”, to quote a current refrain. Mercury retrograde invites us to take a different approach; slow down, reflect and examine. Go on retreat and commune with the natural world. Is something not working? Does something need to be re-done? This is the opportunity of Mercury retrograde.

This Mercury retrograde period is in Leo; the sign associated with individual expression. Leo is the sign of the ego – our sense of personal sovereignty and self-esteem. A healthy ego is a good thing; we need self-esteem in order to direct our lives in the way we want. An overdeveloped ego can be problematic; we can experience difficulties in our relationships. In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Leo is allied with Anubis in his expression as the abandoned child. In order to fulfill his soul purpose – to be who he is meant to be - Anubis must release his attachment to the pain of his abandonment. Many of us are unconsciously attached to the suffering of our abandoned child. The next three weeks will provide an opportunity to explore how this may be showing up in our lives.

Mercury turns retrograde in a positive relationship with both Venus and Ceres. These two are feminine planets, suggesting that the issue of receptivity will be front and center. If you are not receiving what you want - if you do not feel seen and acknowledged – reflect on how you see yourself. What do you need to do differently in order to change how you are treated by others?

Mercury will turn retrograde on July 18 and direct on August 11.
