In traditional astrology Mercury is our mind – how we think, speak, remember, and process information. Even more than this, Mercury is our reality construct – what we believe to be true. In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Mercury is allied with Thoth, the creator of writing, language, and time – essential components of consensus reality. Mercury retrograde periods provide an opportunity to review some aspect of our belief system.
This Mercury retrograde period is in Libra, meaning that relationships are up for review. In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Libra is allied with Ma’at, Goddess of Truth, Justice and Balance. It is time to step out of the status quo and look at our relationships with an unbiased eye. Are our relationships with others in balance? Do we receive as much as we give? Is there something we would like to change about the way we interact with others?
Mercury retrograde periods provide a time to retreat, review and reroute. It may be time for some frank conversations with people we are close to. This process begins with being honest with ourselves about what we want from the relationship as well as what we bring to it.
Mercury/Thoth will turn retrograde on September 27 at 1:10 am EDT and direct on October 18 at 11:17 am EDT. Jupiter will also turn direct on October 18, adding extra punch to the end of this retrograde period.
