Neptune Direct

The last two months have brought a flurry of activity as all five of the outer planets (Jupiter through Pluto) changed direction. These movements have provided opportunities for reflection and reorientation. This period ends with this station of Neptune.

In traditional astrology, Neptune is a planet of mystery, associated with imagination, inspiration, and intuition. Since 2011/12, Neptune has been transiting Pisces, its own sign. Neptune in Pisces has been stamped by a dreamy belief in what may seem - to some - to be unattainable. The shadow side of Neptune is illusion, confusion, and delusion. When Neptune’s shadow is activated, what seems certain dissolves away before our eyes, leaving us in a quagmire of confusion and disappointment.

In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Neptune is allied with Nephthys, Keeper of the Mysteries Behind the Veils. Nephthys is the twin sister of Isis; she serves as mistress of the dark to Isis’ light. The myths about Nephthys are suffused with deception and uncertainty. Yet behind her veils lies truth; it’s just hard to see.

Over the last year, Neptune/Nephthys has been in transition from the comfort of her home sign of Pisces. In January she will move firmly into Aries, the fire sign associated with birth and renewal. Her expression will be very different in the new year but for now we are invited to follow this mystical goddess into the mists of the unknown.

There is much to learn in this illusory world. To find these truths, we must be willing to trust and allow ourselves to be led – a most unnerving prospect for many but an experience that can be richly rewarding. Call upon this mystical goddess for direction. Close your eyes, listen, and allow.
