Sun in Leo

In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, the fire sign Leo is aligned with Anubis in his youth. Anubis is the son of Nephthys; her husband is Set, the Warrior King. His father is Osiris, husband to Isis (Nephthys’ twin sister) and brother to Set. The conception of Anubis is the result of a deception; Osiris believes he is making love to his wife, when really his lover is her sister.

In the story as we have inherited it, Nephthys is the seducer of Osiris, betrayer of Isis and Set, and abandoner of Anubis. When Nephthys gives birth to Anubis, she knows she cannot take him home with her. Her husband Set will kill Anubis. She takes her baby out to the desert, lays him on the sand, and walks away.

Nephthys is the Goddess of Mystery and so it is not surprising that something is hidden in this story. When Nephthys walks away, Isis is watching from afar. She rescues Anubis, raises him as her own, and teaches him her magic, training him to become the guide to the underworld for the newly deceased. The abandoned child is raised into the light by Isis, a goddess of the Sun.

Leo individuals are generous, creative and vibrant, and yet hidden in their heart is the shadow of the underworld. The signs on the wheel grow out of one another; Leo marks the emergence of a whole and complete individual. This being is insecure and seeks to find themselves in the gaze of another. Those with Leo strong in their charts are the performers of our world - extroverted, charismatic, and talented. And, behind the radiant façade of the lion-heated leader hides the hurts, betrayals and abandonments of the child.

On July 17/18, Mercury turned retrograde in Leo. During this Leo season it is important to examine your own ego expression. Do you look to others to find your light? What do you see when you look in the mirror?

The Sun will emanate though Leo/Anubis from July 22 to August 22.
