Sun in Virgo

Virgo is the last of the six signs of the Zodiac that describe the growth of the individual. Aries desires to exist, Taurus grounds that desire in physical form, Gemini thinks about it, Cancer integrates these three phases, with the result being Leo - a whole and complete individual. Then Virgo – ever the perfectionist – cleans up the loose ends. A realignment here, a fluff up there, and – presto! – we have a being ready to enter into a relationship with another (Libra).
Virgo is an earth sign and is therefore practical. Ruled by Mercury, Virgo is analytical and attuned to details. In its light, Virgo is clear, focused, and pure of heart and mind. In its shadow, Virgo is critical, fussy, and judgmental.
In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Virgo is allied with the vulture goddess, Nekhbet. Nekhbet, with Wadjet, is one of the Two Ladies – nursemaids to the Pharoah. Nekhbet’s job is to teach the young pharaoh wisdom so he will rule with clarity and vision.
Nekhbet is the Crone Priestess; one cannot gain entry to the mysteries without her approval. Her message to us is that before we can step into our soul purpose – do what we came here to do - we must turn our critical eye upon ourselves.
Virgo season provides the opportunity to connect with our inner Priest/Priestess – the part of us that wants to walk the Path of our Soul. We are invited by Nekhbet to learn how to transmute judgment into discernment. Vultures consume the bodies of the dead, transmuting the poison of death into nourishment. Judgment is poison to the soul. Judgment says, “This is wrong.” Discernment says, “This is wrong for me.” There are miles between these two sentences and this is the road that Virgo must walk. There is a reward at the end of the journey and its name is Wisdom.
