April 17, 2026: New Moon at Aries 27°29’, 7:52 am EDT.
This New Moon highlights the archetype of The Warrior. Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac, ruled by Warrior Mars. The association of Aries with Warrior energy has less to do with aggression – which can happen with this fire sign – and more to do with the focused determination required to initiate life. Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac, the beginning of a new cycle, and holds within it the intense energy of new life.
This New Moon features a tight conjunction to Chiron, The Wounded Healer, suggesting that there are opportunities for healing around The Warrior archetype. Warriors are expected to be protectors, initiators, and they are expected to win. They are required to be divorced from their emotions in a way that can lead to a lack of compassion and empathy.
The Egyptian myth of Set illustrates this story. Set kills Osiris, his brother, for no obvious reason. Yet this same being also accompanies Ra – the Sun God – on his nightly journey through the underworld. Set destroys the demons who want to consume Ra and prevent the sun from rising. Set’s actions are driven by a sense of purpose; his mission is to keep the Earth alive. Yet where is this mission in the story of the murder of his own brother?
This dilemma is what makes The Warrior archetype complicated. How does one own the fierce abilities of The Warrior in a noble, protective, and loving way? What is ethical action? And where is the line between right action and unadulterated rage? These are the questions bedeviling the Wounded Warrior as manifested through Chiron in Aries, aligned with this New Moon.
