Equinox and Mercury Direct

The Equinox is a special time, a place of perfect balance between dark and light. All Earthlings, no matter where we live, experience an equal number of hours of night and day. For a brief time, we are not in opposition and duality is resolved.

This is the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Autumn Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. The north is journeying toward the extreme of maximum light; the south is moving toward maximum darkness. The Equinox marks the midpoint of this journey. Both north and south experience this moment of perfect balance on a planet defined by opposition.

A little over 4 hours after the exact Equinox, Mercury turns direct. This is the culmination of a series of important astrological events that began with a Solar Eclipse on February 17. The series is now complete and the Zodiacal Wheel moves into a new cycle.

There are still difficulties. The Sun, moving into Aries, is in a conjunction with the Neptune/Saturn conjunction, waning but still in effect. Pluto is square to Ceres and Jupiter is square to Venus. We hold visions of a new reality but still have no container to hold that vision. The container from the past is dissolved and it will take time to build a new one.

Regardless, this day is worthy of celebration. Mercury direct invites us to begin mentally constructing a new reality construct. The Equinox reminds us of our commonality. No matter where on Earth we live, on this day our experience is the same: a pause created by a moment of balance between dark and light. We are reminded that in truth we are one planet. We move in different directions but today, for one brief moment, we meet, pause, and experience the same reality. Happy Equinox to all!

The exact Equinox is at 10:46 am EDT; Mercury turns direct at 3:33 pm EDT.
