Full Moon in Cancer

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

December 29, 2020: Full Moon at Cancer 8°53’, 10:28 pm EST.

As this chaotic year comes to an end, the dismantling of the reality structure of our world is complete. The road ahead will be rife with both challenges and opportunities. Our greatest task will be to create new structures appropriate to our changing circumstances. There will be disagreements as to what these new collective structures should be. As individuals, we will continue to be affected by societal change.

The astrological challenge of our New Year will come via a square – a challenging aspect - between Saturn – Sobek, the Old King – and Uranus – Wadjet, the Cobra Goddess. This transit will dominate all of 2021 and most of 2022; it is now in its beginning phase. The period we are entering will be characterized by both creative potential as well as volatility.

In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, the water sign Cancer is allied with Nut and Geb, the Divine Parents. Nut and Geb are lovers, connected through eternity by their roles as guardians of the sacred container of Earth. Nut is the Sky Goddess, often portrayed as a woman arching her body across the canopy of stars, her fingers and toes touching the two horizons. Geb is the Earth God, reaching up to his beloved Nut with his mountains and trees. Together these two create our biosphere of air and earth, without which life cannot exist. The life forms of Earth – animals and plants – are the children of Nut and Geb, held safe in the sacred container of their love.

During this Full Moon Window (December 28 – 30), spend time in grateful awareness of the precious gift we Earthlings have been given. Touch into your connection with all life on our planet, no matter it’s form. As is said by the Lakota: “Mitakuye Oyasin.” We are all related.
