April 1, 2026: Full Moon at Libra 12°21’, 10:12 pm EDT
The Libra Full Moon initiates an emotional crescendo around the I/Thou relationship. The balance – or struggle - between one viewpoint and another. It is ironic that this sign, which so longs for relationship and harmony with others, is also associated with the use of force.
In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Libra is allied with Ma’at, Goddess of Truth, Justice, and Balance. In Egyptian myth, the heart of the newly deceased is weighed upon Ma’at’s scale and against her feather. If the soul of this person is to gain access to the Duat, the Egyptian version of heaven, their heart must be lighter than Ma’at’s feather. If it is not, their heart is eaten by the monstrous Ammit, ending their existence.
In Greek myth, a scale is associated with Themis, Goddess of Justice. The better-known Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, Strategic Warfare and Justice, holds a sword and a shield. The Roman Justicia, associated with our modern court system, is shown blindfolded with a scale in one hand and a sword in the other. Her image suggests that justice must be blind, unmoved by human emotion.
The shadow of Libra lies in the need for others to do what we want so there will be peace in our world and we will then feel safe. In its highest expression Libra uses negotiation to create harmony. In its shadow, Libra appeases others through people pleasing and manipulation. In its extreme, peace-loving Libra is not averse to the use of force if other means do not work.
It was my hope that once we moved through the intense transits that began in February and continued through the Equinox, our current theme of war would dissipate. However, harmony demands a shared perspective and if negotiation does not work – well ... The light of this Full Moon is casting a big shadow.
