In traditional astrology, Mars is creative and destructive action. Capricorn is societal structure and authority. In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Mars is aligned with Set, The Warrior King. Capricorn is Khnum, Creator of the Creatures of Earth.
Focused on the mission at hand, capable Mars in Capricorn gets things done. Individuals with this placement are natural organizers, born with an ability to envision and implement structure. They are also quite determined, and not easily thrown off course.
The shadow side of Capricorn is authoritarianism and these natives can be ruthless in their adherence to an existing structure. They can be the enforcers of established form, no matter the changing needs of substance. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn – Sobek, the Old King – who struggles to maintain his power against the rising tide of new energy and ideas. And, inevitably, the Old King will die and his reign will end, replaced by the youthful enthusiasm of Horus, the Young King.
This transit of Mars through Capricorn is particularly important. In March, Mars will activate the Jupiter/Pluto/Saturn conjunction, a huge transit that is rapidly building in momentum. Jupiter (Horus) is the principle of expansion; Pluto (Osiris) symbolizes death, regeneration and rebirth. This conjunction is the symbolic description of The Great Shift and the demise of the domination of patriarchal energy (The Old King Saturn/Sobek), both on a societal level and in our individual lives. The alignment of Mars/Set with this ongoing transit will ignite a new phase of this change. The result will be simultaneously destructive and creative.
Mars will remain in Capricorn until March 30.
