December 29, 2022: Mercury turns retrograde at Capricorn 24°21’.
Mercury, the planet of communication, turns retrograde in a tight conjunction to Venus and Pluto, and in a square to Eris.
In traditional astrology, Venus is what we want to receive, Pluto is the never-ending cycle of death and rebirth, and Eris is strife and discord. Mercury refers to societal systems of communication and transportation and – at a personal level - describes how we speak, listen, remember, process information, and defines our reality construct. Capricorn is about organization and structure.
Forward movement is often blocked during Mercury retrograde periods, as our attention is directed toward examining something that isn’t working. This retrograde period will be about reconsidering some operative structure. Because Eris is involved, we may find this situation highly irritating. Pluto – always intense – may bring an existing structure down, thereby making it clear that the current situation is not working. Our internal Venus will tell us what we want to receive; how we can best be supported. Over the next three weeks we have an opportunity to reorganize, revamp, and redo a structure in our home, work, or personal life.
On a collective level, Pluto is once again back in a conjunction to the United States Pluto, another phase of the ongoing US Pluto Return. This transit began in February and will complete in the fall of 2023. The United States is also being challenged to consider changes in structure. As within; so without. We must collectively consider what we would like to receive from the structure of our society and be willing to make necessary changes. Admittedly, easier said than done.
Mercury turns direct on January 18, 2023, at Capricorn 8°08’.
