The shadow side of Capricorn is inflexibility. This sign, ruled by Saturn, is associated with the concept of the patriarchy – a system of societal organization that has been in place for centuries. Just as a Capricorn may adhere to the adage, “a place for everything and everything in its place”, the patriarchy wants every person in their place. When a society refuses to reinvent itself to accommodate change, we have an authoritarian culture. When someone is overly resistant to change, we have an inflexible person.
In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Capricorn is allied with Khnum. Khnum created the humans and animals of Earth out of clay, spinning them into form on his potter’s wheel. Khnum’s creations are not static. Whenever we go through a transformational process, Khnum invites us back onto his wheel so that a new energetic body can be created that better supports our internal changes.
Khnum is a flexible elder, willing to create new containers appropriate for changes in substance. As we move through the season of Capricorn, pay attention to those places where you need to adjust form to better support change. Step onto Khnum’s wheel and allow yourself to be reinvented.
