First sign of the Zodiac, the fire sign Aries marks the beginning of a new year-long cycle. Those with Aries strong in their charts view life as a grand adventure. They radiate enthusiasm, excitement, and desire. In their shadow, they can be seduced by the “new” and have difficulty completing projects. In some cases, they associate close connection with restriction and instinctively bolt in the pursuit of “freedom.”
In Greek and Roman myth, Aries is associated with The Warrior. Ares is the God of War to the Greeks; his Roman name is Mars. In these myths he is a cruel and ruthless adversary. He shows up on the battle field to ignite the flames of bloodlust and fury.
In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Aries is aligned with Kephera, the Rising Sun, represented by the Scarab. The Scarab is a stylized representation of the dung beetle, common to Africa.
The ancient Egyptians believed the dung beetle held characteristics of both male and female. They lay their own eggs, fertilize them, then wrap them in a ball of dung, pushing the ball in front of them. They care for their eggs until they hatch. In this way, the dung beetle was seen as both nurturer and protector, and the Egyptians saw Khepera as the protector of Earth.
Those with Aries strong in their chart are often seen as aggressive and competitive while, in truth, these individuals simply want the freedom to experience life to the fullest. They hold strong within them the same determined life force that inspires a seedling to break out of its casing, the chick to break through the egg, the baby to move through the birth canal. They are containers for the fire of life and, at their best, they inspire and ignite others with their vibrant nature.
The Sun will emanate through Aries/Kephera from March 20 to April 19.
