Sun in Scorpio

Scorpio comes with a built-in bullshit detector. This water sign is intuitive, attuned to the undercurrents. Scorpios are often born into households full of secrets. At a young age, before they learn the rules of life, they may challenge these lies – a practice not always appreciated by their family. These early experiences can make them distrustful and suspicious of others.

On the Wheel of the Zodiac, Scorpio is the place where physical desire is ignited – the “urge to merge.” This sign wants to break through the boundaries that separate. Hence the association of this sign with sex and death - two ways in which we leave our individual mindset and undergo a full-on body experience. For many Scorpio personalities sex becomes a driving force – along with a fascination with the shadowy side of life. This sign is mysterious, tinged with a hint of danger.

In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Scorpio is allied with Bast, the cat goddess. When warriors came home, their first stop was at the Temple of Bast, where they were purged of the horrors of war by the Sacred Sexual Priestesses. This was also a place where expectant mothers would go to give birth. The Priestesses would create a sumptuous birth experience for the mother, anointing her body with oils and surrounding her with luxurious fabrics. These Priestesses understood the power of sensuality to support men and women as they moved through transformational portals.

The concept of transformation is key to this sign. Its ruler is Pluto – Osiris to the Egyptians. Lord of the Underworld, God of Regeneration. Periodically we all must go on a journey into the underworld. No better guide can be found than mystical, sensual, passionate Bast.

The Sun will remain in the emanation of Scorpio/Bast from October 23 to November 22.
