The earth sign Taurus grounds Aries life force in physical form. This is the sign of the body; these are the dancers, athletes, massage therapists and yoga practitioners, and gardeners of our world. These individuals use their bodies as expression and as a vehicle for pleasure.
Taurus natives reach out to touch things so as to understand their essence. They use their hands to take things apart and to plant seeds in the earth. They breathe in the fragrance of the world around them, and they enjoy physical comfort - an overstuffed chair, soft fabric, a sumptuous meal.
In their shadow they can be acquisitive. Money and security can become a primary focus and even an obsession. They may have difficulty releasing objects, people, ideas. Possessions provide comfort and the Taurus native can hang on long past the time to let go.
Taurus is ruled by Venus, the sensual aspect of the Divine Feminine. In the Egyptian pantheon Venus is allied with Isis, Queen Mother of Heaven. Taurus is allied with her forerunner, Hathor. Hathor is among the most ancient of the Egyptian neteru and can be recognized in the universal archetype of the Great Goddess, the seminal expression of the feminine aspect of the divine. Hathor’s stories date back to the beginning of Egyptian civilization.
In Hathor’s temples the feminine mysteries were ritualized. Festivals featuring music, dancing, drinking and sensuality, including sexual rituals celebrating fertility, were frequent. In her temples, Hathor was depicted as a sensual woman with the ears of a cow, her totem. Through the ages, the name Hathor has come to be associated with luxurious pleasure and a deep appreciation of the generative process.
The Sun will emanate through Taurus/Hathor from April 19 to May 20.
